Vision, Values and Church Distinctiveness

Our School’s theologically rooted Christian Vision:  Learning together for Life in all its Fullness – John 10:10

At St Aldhelm’s, we seek to help all our children achieve their full potential. We aim to instil a love of learning and encourage children to value themselves and each other as unique individuals. Christian values underpin our daily life in school in an atmosphere that is safe and welcoming, where children learn to be reflective and considerate to others. We work together so that all our children are the best that they can be.

Our Christian values are: wisdom, creativity, generosity, truthfulness, thankfulness, community and perseverance.

Our vision is at the core of all that we do: in every decision, action and interaction within our community. This is theologically rooted but lived out in the actions of everyone through modelling and promoting by leaders at all levels. School Leaders and Governors gain monitor the impact of these through pupil voice and joining worship sessions as well as comments made by visitors who comment on the warmth and care that they feel when visiting. Link Governor monitoring is shared with the full governing body so that all Governors have knowledge.

Collective Worship

In line with our vision, we develop children and adults as a whole including their spiritual development. Through carefully sequenced worships across the week, term and year, children can look deeply at Christian Values and the teaching of Jesus. Opportunities to worship at different levels: whole school, key stage, class and child led individual contribution, allow children to engage and develop fully. Adults join Class Worship and on rotation in Key Stage and Whole School worships, as well as daily prayers.

We are very fortunate to work closely with our local Parish Church St Aldhelm's in Doulting.  Reverend Gill Sakakini, Pioneer Priest in the Arts, who leads some of our Collective Worship sessions in schools as well as our Spiritual Retreats (along with additional members of our church).  In addition, this year, we have welcomed our local 'Open the Book' group who tell bible stories.

Throughout the year, each class leads a Church Service at St Aldhelm's Church.  See the Collective Worship plan for more information.

Spiritual Development

Opportunities to explore spirituality are built throughout the school day with opportunities for reflection, to show curiosity and to be reflective about their own beliefs and the awareness that there is something other, something greater than the course of everyday events. We have had some one-off Spirituality Days and opportunities such as Stations of the Resurrection and Threads through Creation at Wells Cathedral but continue to work on promoting a common understanding of spirituality for all children and staff in their day to day life.  Throughout the year, all children have an opportunity to visit St Aldhelm's Church for an afternoon of their Spiritual Retreat.  These are linked to the term's Christian Value and give an opportunity to pause, notice and reflect deeply.

'It was the turn of Magpie Class for their Spiritual Retreat at St Aldhelm’s Church. After exploring the story from Luke and becoming Mother Hens, keeping their chicks safe, they participated in different activities considering Thankfulness. There were opportunities to pause and reflect, create, eat mindfully and be thankful. 💚Belief🙏Aspiration🐣Advocacy💛'
